Tweets tweeting?

When it comes to social networking the first thing that used to come in my mind was Orkut, now face book is desperate to demolish orkut and it has kind of succeeded. But what about a new platform twitter? Ok, first look at what is it? It's all about short messages around 165 characters called tweets and retweets. I am not quite sure about what the latter term means?

Most of the dailies are also publishing tweets from celebrities. The Telegraph quotes tweets on the front page where it used to publish statement made in the press conferences. The time of India has sometime a different column for these tweets in their 'editorial' page. My question is how many sane Indians really care about what mallika sherawat or Bipasha Bose tweeted last night?

Whom this twitter helps? As to me, it is entirely for the movie stars and celebrities who use this platform as press conferences. This website has already caused one premier politician loosing his chair and a great "MODI-FICATION" in IPL. It is the time for the people of India not to blindly follow some celebrities and register on the some social networking site just because it the 'latest trend' but to realize what the want to get from a social networking site? Should it be a really social where you can develop your know network with friends, family, and peers or just be in the herd of fan of some celebrity.

The decision is your. Comments are expected.
